PLAYING A MONK

At 1st-level:

  • Good damage potential due to 'Martial Arts' (two attacks per turn, every turn)
  • Thanks to 'Unarmored Defense' and 'Martial Arts', barely needs any equipment at all to be effective
  • The Monk is a questionable frontliner due to lower hit points and AC than the other melee-centric classes. Is most effective when paired with a proper tank

Later on:

  • Can achieve 17 AC at 4th level through ability score increases for a much needed boost in survivability
  • Some Ki abilities offset the Monk's low defenses ('Patient Defense' and 'Step of the Wind'), while 'Flurry of Blows' keeps their damage output competitive
